I thought ego death was the dissolution of the boundary between one’s self and the rest of the world. Where there is no distinction between you and everything else… where your subjectivity kind of disappears, and you enter into oneness with the universe. If I’m wrong please correct me.

I agree with this take but I also don't think this is necessarily what is meant by ego death in psychedelic circles--It refers to the dissolution of subjectivity wherein the person realizes that the whole universe and everything in it is a singular entity

I agree, when I’ve experienced “ego death” it was more of my ACTUAL importance as part of the universe. So maybe the opposite…. I felt my own importance as part of the system, as having a place in the connected world… it was so healing. I’ve always heard it labeled “ego death” but it was more like a rebirth for me. I also have significant PTSD and persistent depression and it was incredibly healing

I experienced ego death this morning while getting ready for work because i was looking at my dog and he was looking at me and i thought about how we could be each other, and how I am the one piloting my own body but I could also just be nothing at all. And then i went to work.

I had a ketamine treatment for severe mental health issues. At the 6th treatment my breakthrough was being able to press the call button for help because I started feeling scared. Despite being high af I remember thinking “it’s okay. You’re scared and it’s okay to ask for help”.

This really makes sense. I’m very much in psychedelics spaces - but every time I hear about people talk about their most profound experiences, I think, that’s just what I think about / experience all the time.

this is so factual. I feel connected and confident. I already knew how unimportant I was in the vastness of it all by the time I was 10

Women are socially constructed by men. Men invented the bikini, those eyelashes women buy, the bra, the southern belle, the Victorian and now the tradwife

Me, my mom, and my brother watched the matrix for the first time a few months ago. While me and my mom thought it was a good and interesting movie that wasn’t particularly insightful, it broke my brother’s brain, it was like he had an epiphany.

I experienced this when I was 6 years old in the backyard and my step dad had woken me up at 2:00 in the morning to watch a meteor shower 🥰❤️I stood staring up at the sky and realized how small I was and it felt liberating

I had a comple who death on dee em tee where I literally could not remember a single thing about me, who I was, or my life. the last thing I could remember was my daughters name, not mine, hers, and I didnt even know what that was, I just had the word, and I did not want to let it go. the deepest part of my identity was my love for another person. this was probably a decade ago and it still makes me cry to think about. even in ego death the most profound takeaway was how deep my love for others is.

YESSSSS!! I experienced ego death after a series of, as I perceived, nothing going my way no matter how hard I tried. It took a lot of self reflecting, personal feedback, breaking me down and rebuilding myself back up with a proper sense of self not tied to accolades, job titles, etc. I am a completely different person because of it, I often joke that I experienced ego death.
