Mind you, none of this would be necessary if they didn’t build highways and roads blocking the natural flow of water from valleys to the ocean. We would be saving SO much in tax dollars if our infrastructures were built to support ecosystems, but alas…for the tourists 🫠

Wouldn’t be a problem of they didn’t dam up all the rivers… prevents the sediment from reaching the beach, which prevents erosion.

need to pay attention to Netherlands they solved by going high on the beach then next go down low towards the water like little coves like a camels hump up then down because the ocean feeds the beach all the sand it needs with out having to dredge

the problem is a bad design in the harbor jetties. blocks the natural migration of sand from the north. go to del Mar Beach and see the sand. SO much sand right next to oside.

They pump it out of the harbor to make it deeper. Then put the sand on the beach, right next to the harbor.

I'm a native of San Diego, lived my entire 50 years here and started surfing when my Dad put me on my first longboard at the age of 5. My family would spend weeks camping every summer at San Elijo, South Carlsbad, San Onofre, San Clemente, Dohene, just to name a few. We could always tell when no dredging was being done, because their was no sand on the beach, instead, littered with rocks. Every pier, every jetty built by man creates consequences. Some might believe they are worth it, others might disagree, not going to give my opinion here, let you decide for yourself. The advantages include mostly boater safety coming and going from harbors, to include selling fuel, slip fees, paid for fishing expeditions. The cons, as entire change in the natural flow of our ecosystem. Every ocean flows in a clockwise motion. The gulf of America, or Mexico, whatever you choose to call it, Florida, the east coast, had warmer water because it's being brought up from the equator. In the pacific, it flows through Alaska, Canada, Washington, Oregon before it reaches California, so it's colder. But that flow is disrupted by man made structures, so dredging is necessary to keep things regulated. California has a bought and paid for, "friends" appointed to the California Coastal Commission, appointed by the Governor. The care me about denying a hydraulic powered elevator to a home in La Jolla that's a half mile from the coast, than the natural flow of our ocean and coastline..... why, they will eventually give the permit, they just want more money to do it. If coastal commission is a giant joke, especially under Newscum! All of whom are bought and paid for my him. They get a heafty salary, and if you dig deep, they are also big contributors to his re-elections. They truly, but only know nothing about our coastline, they are also nothing more than political hacks put in place for a very specified reason! It's time we vote different, to not only take our state back, but to further protect our 800+ miles of coastline the Commission doesn't gaf about!

I love it because all the seagulls gather around and try to eat all the little crabs and fish and everything that are coming from the bottom of the harbor. they are loving it
