You can also replace the hot water with hot coffee. It really enhances the chocolate flavor.

but get this: the cake batter is thicker than the baked cake. the cake is lighter and fluffier, while the batter is much denser and thicker

Hey, Andrea, I am also an Andrea that makes sourdough. 😊. Here’s my latest loaf; it was a huge hit. Plain dough with dry cured black olives and french fried onion inclusions. (I will add the olives to the dough next time) We had it with stew and then made ham sandwiches out of it, toasted. It was soooo good.

Instead of water, add a cup of strong coffee. Trust me, I make this cake all the time. And also buttermilk instead of regular milk. Although I don’t know what difference that makes lol

you could have added what you lacked in oil with melted butter, melted margarine or even better real mayonnaise! chocolate mayonnaise cake is phenomenal
