What affects one person may not affect another, so it’s always best to listen to your body and work with a qualified healthcare professional to understand what’s right for you!! Understanding your body helps you support it better, here are a few common triggers and why they matter: 🏃🏻‍♀️High impact workouts High-impact exercise (like running or jumping) can stress the lymphatic system and connective tissue. In lipoedema, where fat tissue is already inflamed and sensitive, this added strain may increase swelling, pain, and micro inflammation. That said, cardio shouldn’t be avoided, just incorporated in a way that’s right for you 💓 ✈️ Flying without wearing compression: Air travel often involves long periods of sitting and changes in cabin pressure, which can slow lymphatic flow. Without compression garments, fluid can pool more easily in the limbs, leading to increased swelling and inflammation. 🥯 Eating processed carbs: Highly processed carbohydrates (like refined sugars and white flour) can spike blood sugar and insulin levels. This promotes systemic inflammation and may worsen fat tissue sensitivity and fluid retention in lipoedema. 💧Not drinking enough water Hydration is essential for proper lymphatic flow and waste removal. When you’re dehydrated, lymph fluid can become more sluggish, making it harder for the body to clear toxins and excess fluid, contributing to inflammation. 🥤Drinking soft drinks: Soft drinks are typically high in sugar (or artificial additives), both of which can contribute to inflammation. They can also worsen insulin resistance and promote fluid retention, which may aggravate lipoedema symptoms. Now you don’t need to avoid these completely, just be mindful everyday to take care of yourself and find what causes your inflammation.
