WOW . This book quite literally has EVERYTHING. It has DRAMA , it has LOVE , It has COMEDY , it has TRAGEDY . When I first picked this book up I knew it was a YA Rimance but I got SO much more then I was expecting . First off . THE CHARACTERS 😫 I loved them all so much . ( aside from “Shannon like the rivers” father that is …) Shannon , Johnny , Claire , Lizzie , GIBSIE . I fell for GIBSIE and still haven’t recovered … that character had me CACKLING 🤣. When be entered in the chapters I KNEW I was gonna have a laugh . THE CAT SCENE 💀 🤣🤣. Secondly , THE SETTING … in early 2000’s Ireland ?? Now when I first read that this would be our setting I was a little confused and honestly it put me off for a little while. I didn’t pick up the book solely because I didn’t know if I could really make my mind go there, and BE in that scene. HOWEVER once I got a few chapters deep I was IN IT . I ended up LOVING our setting . It was so different and lovely , and I even found myself finding their accents/ slang in my mind SO ADORABLE 🥰. Now let’s talk about the romance … THE YEARNINGGGGG. SLOW BURNNNN 🔥. BANTERRRRR. Quite honestly I wasn’t even sure if I was a slow burn girly … and this book has made me realize … YES I AM . 🩷 This book gave YA Romance a new direction in my opinion because while no open door scenes happened, the way the book is written with the explicit language , cursing and deep issues addressed you would never NEVER guess it was YA . The chemistry I felt brewing between Shannon and Johnny had me in a CHOKEHOLD. And the way it ends ??!?!?! IMMEDIATELY running 🏃‍♀️ to the next book . I didn’t give it five stars ⭐️ only because of some of the dark stuff in the book . This hs some very triggering things in it , if you have any history with SA , domestic violence , severe bullying or self harm this certainly be discussing those topics at length in some cases . And I’m not one who usually goes for books with those themes in mind .
