A double shooting in Chicago's River North neighborhood left a 30-year-old man dead and a 65-year-old man injured. Details of the Incident: Time and Location: The shooting occurred around 3:20 a.m. in the 500 block of North State Street, right at the busy intersection of State Street and Grand Avenue. How It Happened: The two victims were standing outside when an unidentified individual jumped out of a vehicle and opened fire on them. The Victims: The 30-year-old man was struck multiple times throughout his body. He was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 65-year-old man, who police believe was an unintended target, suffered two gunshot wounds to his foot and is in fair condition at the same hospital. Scene Impact and Commute Disruption: Intense Gunfire: Investigators recovered nearly 70 to over 100 shell casings scattered across the ground, blanketing the area with yellow evidence markers. Property Damage: The barrage of gunfire shattered windows and left multiple bullet holes in the nearby office buildings and the Royal Sonesta Chicago River North hotel. Road Closures: The active crime scene forced police to shut down the heavily traveled intersection during the morning rush hour. Roads were completely taped off until they finally reopened at approximately 7:45 a.m. Area 3 detectives are actively investigating the shooting, and no suspects are currently in custody.
