If you’ve been thinking about making homemade candy, I promise you can do this. One layer at a time, and before you know it, you’ll have a candy bar that’s crispy, chewy, chocolatey, and absolutely worth the wait. 🍫 Rachael’s Homemade Whatchamacallit Bars 🍫 Makes: One 9×9-inch pan Chocolate Layers * 18 oz milk chocolate chips * 2 tbsp coconut oil (optional – you can use another neutral oil or leave it out) Crispy Peanut Butter Layer * 2 cups Rice Krispies cereal * 1 cup creamy peanut butter * ¼ cup unsalted butter * 2 tbsp powdered sugar * ½ tsp vanilla extract * Pinch of salt Homemade Caramel * 1 cup granulated sugar * 6 tbsp unsalted butter * ½ cup heavy cream, warmed * 1 tsp vanilla extract * Pinch of salt Directions 1. Line a 9×9-inch pan with parchment paper. 2. Melt the chocolate chips until smooth. If you’re using coconut oil, stir it in while melting. Spread about half of the chocolate into the bottom of the pan and place it in the refrigerator until firm. 3. In a saucepan over low heat, melt together the peanut butter and butter. Stir in the vanilla, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Fold in the Rice Krispies until every piece is coated. 4. Before adding the peanut butter layer, take a fork and lightly scratch the top of the chilled chocolate. I like doing this because it gives the next layer something to grip onto. 5. Gently press the peanut butter mixture into an even layer over the chocolate. Don’t pack it down too hard. 6. To make the caramel, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns a deep amber color. Whisk in the butter until melted, then slowly whisk in the warm heavy cream. It will bubble—that’s completely normal. Stir in the vanilla and a pinch of salt. 7. Pour the caramel over the peanut butter layer and spread it into an even layer with a spatula. 8. Give the pan a few gentle taps on the counter. I like doing this because it helps the caramel settle down between the Rice Krispies, so you get caramel in every bite. 9. Let the caramel cool for a few minutes. 10. Spread the remaining melted chocolate over the top until completely covered. 11. Refrigerate until the chocolate is firm. 12. Lift the bars out using the parchment paper, slice, and enjoy! These homemade Whatchamacallit bars are crispy, chewy, chocolatey, and loaded with homemade caramel in every bite. 🍫 #Whatchamacallit #CopycatRecipe #CandyBarRecipe #NoBakeDessert #EasyDessert
