@oscetalk_: Levodopa counselling is a very common OSCE station — but most people miss the key practical points that actually matter for patients. Parkinson’s disease is caused by reduced dopamine in the brain → leading to bradykinesia, rigidity and tremor. Levodopa works by increasing dopamine levels and improving these motor symptoms. In an OSCE, you should be covering: • Dosing → taken multiple times per day, start low and titrate • Timing → VERY important → missed or delayed doses → rapid return of symptoms • Practical advice → many patients benefit from taking evening dose earlier (e.g. ~6pm) rather than right before bed • Expectations → often works quickly initially • Long-term → “wearing off” effect → shorter duration of benefit → may need dose adjustment Side effects you need to mention clearly: • Nausea and postural dizziness • Dyskinesia (involuntary movements) → from excess dopamine or long-term use • Neuropsychiatric → confusion, hallucinations High-yield OSCE point people forget: • Impulse control disorders → gambling, shopping, hypersexuality → must warn patients Safety-netting: • Do NOT stop suddenly • If unable to take (e.g. vomiting) → seek urgent medical advice #medicalstudent #medicaltiktok #doctor #osce
