@chloejadetravels: Everyone calls this country the North Korea of Africa: Eritrea Now, while I have showed you a lot of really great things about Eritrea , it’s time to discuss some realities too Many people have reached out with roots from Eritrea or who had to flee the country and they wanted me to share the realities Eritrea has one of the largest refugee populations in the world per capita. One major reason is its indefinite conscription system: where military or government service, officially 18 months, can last for years or even decades under the 30 year president Isaias Afwerki. Eritrea operates as a one-party state with no national elections and no independent media. There are restrictions on civil liberties, including limits on free expression, religious practice, and freedom of movement But despite this, it is a very safe country, and Eritreans truly love their country even if they can’t go back to visit ##eritreantiktok🇪🇷🇪🇷habesha##eritreantiktok##femaletraveler##eastafrica##asmara

Nice visuals, but it’s a bit disappointing to see you recycle the same mainstream clichés. You’re looking at Eritrea through a tourist lens and picking the easy narrative for views instead of doing actual research. Your history is off to start with because independence was 1991, not 1993. 1993 was just a UN formality, but for us, freedom was won on the ground two years earlier. Also, calling National Service forced labor is a huge oversimplification. It is for both men and women, and these people are the ones building the country’s infrastructure, like the Gerset and Logo dams, to ensure our food security. Many countries like Israel or South Korea have mandatory service, but strangely nobody uses those labels for them. You claim people only live on money from abroad, but Eritrea is actually one of the few African nations with zero debt to the IMF or the World Bank. We prioritize self-reliance over foreign debt and charity. Regarding the Tigray conflict, you completely ignored the context of the TPLF missile attacks launched against Eritrea. Defending your own borders and cities against missiles isn’t a fallacious excuse, it is called sovereignty and survival. The biggest contradiction in your story is this prison narrative. If it were true, why do hundreds of thousands of the diaspora return all year round, not just in summer, to spend their holidays with their families? People simply do not holiday where they are truly at risk. It makes no sense. I challenge you to find another country that has achieved this much in just 35 years while facing decades of sanctions without a cent of foreign debt. If you want to see the real spirit of the people, come back this May 24th for our Independence Day and celebrate with us. Respect the reality, not just the headlines. 🇪🇷

You repeated all the lies the mainstream media echoes but how come you forgot to mention the unjust decades long sanctions? and where did you get "the UN calls it North Korea" joke of the year?

I really appreciate you giving perspective and context! Eritrea is beautiful and like no other country but sadly we’re not as perfect as many want to believe it is.

Chloe, thank you for sharing both sides❤️Eritrea has its beauty but it definitely has its horrors as well. Prepare to have regime apologists flooding your comments with pro-government propaganda. You have no idea how much sharing the truth helps the Eritrean voices that have been silenced, so thank you! Please don’t feel discouraged by any of the comments from folks trying to derail the truth of our beautiful yet oppressed country!

"Chloe, I want to deeply thank you for your courage! 🎖️While many travelers only show the surface, you chose to expose the suffering of the Eritrean people and the reality of the 'open-air prison' created by the regime ⛓️. Thank you for highlighting these crimes and for being different from those who visit and stay silent. Your work truly matters! 🕊️"

idk why everyone is being so picky about the infromation being presented, cause she is not wrong about majority of it. the only thing i feel like she got wrong was about the military service, its not only a requirement for men but also women.
