A 42-year-old man went to Six Flags for a day of fun on Monday. He never came home. He fell from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia. We don’t yet know what caused this tragedy. BUT a new CNN investigation shows the warning signs at Six Flags parks go back years. State records from California, New Jersey and Texas show hundreds of injury reports, including a train derailment, faulty restraint bars (the bars that lock you into your seat), concussions and broken bones. And weeks before Monday’s death, Six Flags announced it would permanently close its famous X2 coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California. CNN had linked that ride to serious brain injuries and at least two deaths. THEN there’s the money. Six Flags has lost money every year since its 2024 merger with Cedar Fair, including nearly half a billion dollars in just the first six months of 2026. Investor lawsuits claim the company put off repairs and cut staff along the way. Six Flags hasn’t responded to those claims in court, and it says its safety procedures meet or exceed industry standards. So how common are ride injuries? The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimated about 30,000 ER visits tied to amusement rides in 2016. For kids alone, a national study found about 4,400 ER visits a year. The head and neck were hurt most often (28%). Soft tissue injuries like bruises and scrapes were the most common type (29%), followed by cuts (20%) and broken bones (10%). The good news is that only 1.5% of those kids needed to stay in the hospital. NOW the big question is whether Six Flags can survive all of this. Its stock has crashed to about $10, its lowest point since 2009 and down more than 80% since the merger. The company owes about $5 billion, roughly four times what the whole company is worth on the stock market. And both Moody’s and S&P have both downgraded its credit. That leaves Six Flags in a tight squeeze. It needs to spend MORE on safety at the exact moment it has less money to spend. #SixFlags #RollerCoaster #ThemeParkSafety #AmusementPark #TheTwinDoctors
