It feels like they're "punishing" you by befriending/consoling the one they perceive as being "hurt" or they consider "innocent" in the situation. I saw this with my mom's sisters when my parents divorced after 43 years. They barely spoke to me or her for months, yet he was invited to a family wedding and took a vacation to visit other family members in a different State. WTH? 🤷

Bri, four months in after coming out at 56, I'm seeing this reflected and it just lands wrong with me bc it hurts. Age upon coming out hasn't shielded me from this particular part of grief bc immaturity and closemindedness knows no age minimums or limits. I want to be seen and acknowledged, and I'm not expecting consensus bc my authentic self isn't determined by a majority outside of me. Rather, my authenticity is validated by the majority known as ME. I know most of the people I associate with aren't in the community, and I know faith enables me to love others deeply, regardless of who they are. Most of my social network doesn't reflect this to me. They make a limitless God feel limited, and if I weren't solid in my connection to God, I'd mistakenly believe that God loves like they do- conditionally and with limitations. Y'all, that ain't never been true and it never will be. It's going to be alright after while, and I'm still going to be a lesbian who loves deeply, and I'll develop new friendships and relationships.
