@buildingstories_sg: This is Singapore’s first air-conditioned shopping mall, opened in 1973! If you find this design familiar, especially these round windows, it’s because its modular design is similar to Golden Mile Complex-both were designed by the same architects. Katong Shopping Centre was lively, known for its hobby craft shops, printing services, and even a bowling alley adding to the buzz. Today, however, much of the space is occupied by maid agencies, a big shift from its heyday. The place is still a big draw for foodies looking for a plate of chicken rice or a slice of banana pie! I dont think it was the first air conditioned mall. early air-conditioning shopping was Tay ban guan, fitzpatrick and cold storage.

used to live behind this building, have since moved away. my best memory of it is the really nice ice cream in the basement, used to be next to or the same row with the banana pie. it has closed down now but memories live on..

Back in the nineties, it was dominated by photocopy shops. If you have a big car, don't park at their MSCP
