I have a herniated disc right now was in the er about six weeks ago for five days. My pcp just said he won’t give anymore pain meds because I got an anti inflammatory from ortho and was prescribed pt. I’ve been going to pt and taking both meds and I’m still in pain. He said it’s not a long term solution to my back. Well I’m not asking for long term I’m asking for short term pain relief while the disc heals. Why is it so difficult for Drs to understand that there are people who aren’t drug seekers who are in pain everyday and are just asking to not be in pain. I don’t want the damn meds I want pain relief. I want to walk without pain to work without pain. It’s not that difficult but society has made drs afraid to give these meds.

I am so sorry you are all in this boat 😔 but I do take comfort that I’m not alone. This crap needs to be talked about more often and I’m going to use my tiny little platform to bring whatever awareness to THIS part of the “opiod epidemic.” I am in the process of writing a memoir called “Hoof Beats & Horsetails: Connecting the Stripes of Chronic Illness” which is a play on words of my Cauda Equina Syndrome and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome diagnosis’s. Beneath every chapter number, I would like to have a small paragraph excerpt of other people’s stories like the comments in this post. If you would like to be a part of that, please let me know. I can include your name and city, state or you can remain anonymous. My hope is that this book brings attention to this and also is a comfort for other people like us struggling. Love to you all 🫶🏻

The point of the ED in that instance is to rule out a complication from your chronic condition, and the PCP basically has to tell you to go for legal reasons 🤷♂️welcome to healthcare lol

Accurate. Or worse, go to the specialist who sends you to a pain clinic. You go in and the doc tells you it’s not blah blah blah you need to see a neurologist. (The neurologist is the one who sent me to him, had to wait almost a year) he looked at me told me he couldn’t do anything and maybe it’s just anxiety

Depending the type of pain, our area has an orthopedic urgent care. Anything joint/bone related I have found this fast tracks things a bit. Hoping you get pain relief soon ❤️
