@inflow: Understanding that ADHD is a physical struggle with self-motivation helps explain why gaming is easy while homework feels impossible. its literally cause its boring and we can't focus if its not giving us dopamine we'll zone out or something else will catch our attention. same with his wrong video games analogy if the game is boring ill lose interest fast and move on.
its like writers block I hit a brick wall. I cant function if there isnt dopamine as fuel to keep going and it actually feels bad it turns into feeling of stress or trapped to keep pushing it without the feeling of dopamine turns into chore like your in jail doing forced labor can feel depressing.
it sucks.

Homework will never be allowed in my house. It is called schoolwork for a reason. I don’t bring my work home. Don’t bring your schoolwork to the house. You’re not going to interfere with the kids life outside of 830 to 4.

My concern is the lack of social interaction which js also a struggle for ADHDers. So what do we do?! Do I let my son play video games everyday for hours? Not encourage him to make friends and be sociable? That’s where il lost as a parent. He’s such a great kid! I should mention he’s 20yrs old and going to college and doing well in school. But I’m lost as a parent. He is either glued to his phone or gaming. He does have a job also. The phone is never out of his hand. I want understand and help!

I was diagnosed in 1st grade. I'm 37 now. self-consequence can be learned, the hard way 😔. I self motivate & get busy & do the work. Child development is different though. My kids are straight A students cuz of my experience as I understand them & give my tools to them. ❤️

I struggled with regular high school, I had 6 credits by senior year. A week before Senior year started, I joined an online high school, not only did I make up every credit in a year, I graduated with honors. I was able to work at my own pace 🏃🏻♀️💨

I’ve messed up so many things in my life and I never knew why I couldn’t be normal, it wasn’t until this year that I realized it was all due to my ADHD. Life is so unfair. 🫠😭

This is absolutely 100% true!!! I lived it!!! I couldn't focus!! I always needed help with homework, I was always told that I was lazy! I couldn't figure out why other kids could do the work but I couldn't!!! Studying was even more difficult!! I finally figured out in my 50's that I suffered from ADHD!!
