Law & order is important, no doubt, but fairness matters too. You can’t expect small street vendors to suddenly follow strict systems when they’ve been operating informally for years, especially without giving them proper support, designated spaces, or a clear transition plan.
If high taxes and rules are imposed without providing alternatives, it doesn’t solve the problem, it just pushes people deeper into poverty. These vendors are not criminals; they’re people trying to earn a living.
A better approach would be to regulate with compassion: create structured vendor zones, affordable licensing, and basic facilities. That way, cities stay organized while livelihoods are protected.
Real progress is when development includes everyone, not when it excludes the most vulnerable.
