DENNIS SEVERS HOUSE📍18 Folgate Street, Spitalfields How this house came to be is thanks to Dennis Severs who was an eccentric Southern Californian who adored British history. He came to Spitalfields in 1979 and bought a derelict house at 18 Folgate Street. In 1980 it opened for visitors to discover his eccentric labour of love. The house is reconfigured with immaculate detail to tell the story of an imaginary Huguenot silk merchant family who had lived there since it was built in 1724.   The man himself would often give the tours and told stories of the (fictional) Jervis family he claimed once lived here. A visit here is one of the more unusual things to do in East London. Every opportunity should be taken to visit this one-of-a-kind home.  Set aside at least 45 minutes and maybe even 1 1/2hours if you truly wish to savour all the details. David Hockney once described the house as one of the world’s five great experiences. SILENT VISIT £16 Saturday & Sunday Afternoons 12pm-4pm An unguided tour through the house without speaking and explored at your own pace.   RELAXED VIEWING £16 Friday afternoons 12pm-4pm A more informal visit than the “Silent Tours”, with talking allowed   SILENT NIGHT £25 Friday Evenings 5pm-9pm A silent visit illuminated by the splendour of candlelight between twilight and the evening hours. De pronto observa a un mendigo llamado Santiago y, sorprendido por su increíble parecido físico, pregunta: "Mamá, ¿por qué ese mendigo se parece tanto a mí?". Sara queda completamente desconcertada, pero antes de responder, Santiago se acerca con humildad e intenta vender un antiguo reloj de bolsillo para conseguir algo de dinero. Al ver el reloj, Sara cambia por completo. Lo reconoce de inmediato y pregunta desesperadamente de dónde lo consiguió. Santiago responde que pertenecía a su abuela Laura, la única persona que lo crió, y que se lo entregó antes de morir. Esa respuesta provoca un intenso flashback: años atrás, en una noche lluviosa, una joven Sara llegó llorando a la humilde casa de Laura con un bebé recién nacido en brazos. Desesperada, le rogó que lo criara como si fuera su propio hijo y le entregó el mismo reloj, pidiéndole que se lo diera cuando creciera. De vuelta al presente, Sara pregunta por Laura y descubre que falleció dos años atrás. Después le pregunta a Santiago si Laura alguna vez le explicó el origen del reloj. Él responde que no; solo le decía que algún día entendería por qué era tan importante. Sara toma el reloj, lo abre y encuentra una antigua fotografía suya junto a la inscripción: "Siempre busca la verdad." Comprende que Laura cumplió su promesa y decide revelar el secreto que guardó durante toda su vida. Entre lágrimas le dice a Santiago que fue ella quien lo dejó en los brazos de Laura y, finalmente, confiesa: "Porque... yo soy tu madre." Incapaz de aceptar semejante verdad, Santiago entra en shock, niega con la cabeza y huye corriendo. Sara intenta detenerlo, pero no lo consigue. Mientras observa cómo desaparece en la distancia, rompe en llanto.
