@blackbirdcoop: When workers produce a trillion dollars in revenue and all of it goes to manipulating the stock price for the benefit of stockholders, that is wage theft.

Every time you see “record breaking profits”, it really means “stolen wages from workers”

A fair days pay for an honest days of work. Not “the bare minimum we can legally get away with paying you because your alternative is starvation”. Corporations have, for too long, forgotten that workers rights and unions were the peaceful compromise. They have never been the only option.

Dodge vs. Ford Motor Company (1919) ruled that corporation's financial responsibility was to the shareholders, not the employees or company. "Record profits" = unpaid wages

my company spent all of 2024 bragging about how they(see: we the employees) made a billion dollars that year and then wouldn't you know it? Spring of 2025 when our merit increases were announced, I got a 36 cent raise 🙃 I haven't done shit for that company since. You wanna pay me 36 cents? you're getting 36 cents worth of effort

whether you agree or not, this is why im socialist. anytime i learn and look at anything regrading Capitalism, all i end up seeing is the same. Workers being used by the rich to get richer and making the workers suffer. I hoenstly hate this shit system, and the fact that its not flawed is what disgusts me. All of these "flaws" we see in capitalism and dislike. its not flaws, its working as intended. Capitalism is designed to inrich the rich and steal from the poor and make them suffer and own nothing. Let me use some basic math for anyone who says "well capitalism gives you the chance to become rich". If someone earned 20 dollars an hour and worked 50 hours a week. It would take that person roughly 66,000 YEARS to reach 1 billion dollars. how about 100 million dollars? 6,600 years. okay fine 50 million thats a reasonable amount someone may want right? thats 3,300 years. okay okay fine, 10 million? roughly 660 years. So if your working as a worker, you will NEVER become rich. "Start your own company duh" okay fine, the average cost of setting up a company is okay so the LLC registration is varied by state going from 50 to 500 dollars. Then basic tools and software can be 200 to 2,000 dollars, then website and branding 100 to 1,000 or more dollars, and marketing could do it for 0 dollars or 2,000 or more dollars. So could see a cost of 500 to 5,000 or More dollars This is only for a Low-cost / solo business. remember that! its the only realistic category if your making 20 dollars an hour Small local business require much more, $5k to 20k for rent, 10k-100k for equipment, licenses, insurances, inventory 5k to 50k or More. so $25k to $150k+ this is not practical without loans or investors. For Scalable startup, 100k to 1 million funding. Extremely competitive and high failure rate. 50% of businesses fail within 5 years, Very few ever pass $1M/year in revenue, only a few top percent reach $10M+ net worth from a business. So your unlikely to actually become rich.

I think any corporation whose full-time employees qualify for federal or state assistance programs for the poor, or who give their employees less hours than full-time based on benefit requirements is also committing wage theft.

So many companies have stagnated wages while being wildly profitable year over year. I doubt anyone would agree to that if it was explained that way at hiring.

It sucks that other people will be unemployed. But the bigger problem is this……The Starbucks CEO made $97,000,000 in 2025….. the average barista makes around $33,000. That’s 3000x more…. The CEO makes what a barista makes in one year in ONE HOUR (based on 8hr work day). How is that okay? The workers run the business.

Wage theft is calling someone salary and expecting more than 40hrs a week. It’s the 5 minutes they expect you to do work related activities before clocking in (getting changed into hospital scrubs for example). It’s giving cost of living pay adjustments that aren’t at or above the inflation rate.

My most favorite work situation ever was receiving an email from corporate in 2021 explaining why we wouldn’t be getting any raises, followed two days later by an email from corporate celebrating “record profits” and stock buybacks. My rage has only increased since then. I did quit at the end of that year, thankfully.
