I’m not Muslim but I am Black and I think being aware of the ways Black people of different backgrounds encounter anti-Blackness is still beneficial and can provide a better understanding of how I move through the world. This is an interesting convo to listen to and observe. I hope having these conversations can shed a light on the issues Black Muslims are facing in the Islamic faith.

As an arab muslim from Saudi Arabia we know the difference between Culture and Religion, and i think that you are overrating your topic. If you see Arab Muslims in Egypt, Morocco, Jordan and other countries they dont dress like us in the middle east (Black Abayas). Each country dress by the standards of Islam within their own culture. You’re trying to vanish your heritage and blaming Arab standards for it while it’s not true. Sudanese culture is an obvious example of a respected and loved different culture than ours.

It’s an Arab religion. That’s it’s origin I don’t see how it can be “arabized”

North African here (algerian) 🇩🇿I share the same opinion about aesthetics and how to dress modestly in islam being Algerian, women are often shamed for dressing too revealing that we actually lost our traditional modest pieces of clothing that do meet the islamic standards perfectly and are modest just not the arab ones, if a woman is wearing HAYEK or serwal chel9a, kabyle outfits… or any traditional outfit, it is often seen as too revealing just because it’s not your standard black abaya, jilbab, niqab… even by algerian men and women who lost their true identity in pursuit of that of the middle east and of gulf countries. People misinterpret arab traditions and customs for Islamic ones and try to force them on other cultures or else, you are not muslim

I completely agree with you. Islam is global and flexible it shouldn't be tied to a specific look or culture.
