I have a theory that Theo is actually looking at Liam's chest in the elevator scene. Because he can hear his heartbeat and knows that Liam was lying when he said he wouldn't die for Theo either. That's why Liam looks away so quickly. Because he knows Theo knows he lied. Theo is good at lying and controlling his own heartbeat, so he could have done it on the spot. So Liam must have thought Theo was telling the truth when he said he wouldn't die for him. And I don't think Liam wanted to show that he cared about Theo,at least not if Theo supposedly didn't do the same.
