I use canva for marketing and some covers. I hand draw or use photoshop for character art. MIBLART has relatively inexpensive cover options. Atticus is a onetime fee for their formatting software.

D2D gives you a free isbn but still lets you publish through Ingram. Canva has a free version and the paid one is only $15. You can make covers and marketing material there. Story origin is a great way to do beta copies and universal links and it’s free or paid. The paid is $100 a year but you can use it for free. If you want a writing software but scrivner is too much novel pad is very similar but woo internet based and it’s $10 a month. It will format for you.

premade cover sales can be insane. even custom covers. I just bought 3 custom covers for 60 each. you have to get into the artists Facebook groups.

Bartering for artists to do covers—there has to be a skill you can trade for art work baking, cleaning etc. Also Getcovers.com. And Rebecca Kenney has a tutorial on how to make a cover that looks good on Canva.

I have a whole series on free and low cost editing. Also, it's mostly just practicing and letting it take the time it takes. Making friends. Doing writing practice and writing groups.... there aren't really any shortcuts

I learned soooo much just from joining an online writing community. Be willing to go on lives, meet and read and support other Indy authors. They ended up being my best alpha, beta, sensitivity readers and developmental editors. In my community in Utah, there are also MANY author groups that meet once a month.
