That was beautiful. My dad passed in August, and I had stopped talking with him before that , for the most part... I havent missed him yet but I do embrace what he has taught me in life.

This sums up a lot of my relationship with my mom. There's so much she taught and so much harm she caused by refusing to heal herself.

the wounds of your battle to heal are honorable and should be worn with pride. They're proof you continue to seek to live and engage with the world. ❤️

thank you for sharing both your memories as well as the song.
may I counter your thouggt of being alone- and I own that I am presuming when you say "only son" that you *may* have sisters... or perhaps he had brothers or sisters who gave you cousins... If any of those generational peers had a male child- you are not alone... it may mean you bear a responsibility to guide the next generation... but that is the beauty of hindsight and the ability to look forward, especially in regards to generational trauma: it is the recipe for healing.

Thank you. Serendipitous given that I just had the entire weight of the letters of my parents dumped on me, all carefully archived by now departed sister.
