Sincerely Sara Lynn :
I used to drink a four pack of redbull in a day when I was in my 20s. At the time no one ever said how bad they were for you. It wrecked my heart. I’ve always told my kids to stay away from energy drinks. I can understand taking the company to court for not having better warning labels but i also agree with you, the parents should have told her not to drink them.

Why are they trying to sue the distributors, and not the company?

My 15 yo will ask for energy drinks, I don’t buy them for her. She can take a sip or two of mine. But it’s my responsibility to keep her safe. Idc if there’s a warning label or not. They are nit healthy for any person, let alone children.

My 15 year old daughter was buying them at work, in the morning before school. I really had no idea how much she was drinking until she started having really bad headaches and she was honest about it. Now she can’t have them.

I keep seeing people place all the blame on the parents, but it’s not that simple. This was a 17-year-old, we’re talking about someone who can go out with friends, make their own choices, and buy things without their parents knowing. You can tell a teenager “don’t do this” a hundred times, and that doesn’t guarantee they’ll listen. At that age, a lot of us were doing the same kind of thing, walking to gas stations with friends, buying energy drinks, and not thinking twice about it, and sometimes buying things, even if we weren’t supposed to. That doesn’t automatically mean the parents failed. It’s a tragic situation, and at the end of the day, it seems like an accident, not something that’s as black-and-white as people are making it out to be. As for a lawsuit, I’m not sure where that would stand since these products do have warning labels, but that’s a separate conversation.

I hate the tragedy happened. But was the enlarged heart due to drinking an Alani or 2? Or did she have an underlying heart issue?

There should be an age limit to be able to buy energy drinks. Because when my 12 daughter is walking home from school, she swings by the corner store and buys an alani energy drink and she knows I don’t allow her to drink them. And no, you definitely wouldn’t get out from underneath your rock because we can’t hover over our kids 24 seven.

We don’t know much about the lawsuit. For example the lawsuit against McDonald’s was completely justified. But everyone thought it was ridiculous. I think they are designed to be attractive to high schoolers. Also once your kid is 17…you don’t know what they have access to when they are out. Especially if they are driving.

This isnt just an age thing, you could be 20, 30 and still have the same outcome, the problem is the consumer just putting everything and anything into their body without researching side effects and how much is too much... Its no secret that caffeine speeds up the heart and at 17 you notice your heart speed up after drinking any type of caffeine just as a 20 or 30 year old does... And what happens with a rapid heart rate?! Everyone looking to make a quick buck is why legit lawsuits will be harder to win

The limitations are on the can. Having cute packages doesn’t mean targeting teenagers…. There are bottles of vodka strawberry flavored with cute prints but i don’t buy that for a 16 year old girl…. Non of the influencers that the brand promotes are under 18 and the mom was buying it for her, sorry but I don’t buy my kid a Frappuccino with 7 shots of espresso and then sue Starbucks!

My brother in law got bone cancer in his late 20s and the doctors think it was from excessive energy drink & pre work out. They called it cancer in a can. And I don’t think the dangers of these drinks is widely known. So it makes sense to be go sue if only to get more awareness out there. (Brother in law is fine now in his 30s, but had to get in depth cancer screenings yearly)

1 minors shouldn’t be consuming caffeine no need for it a child should have enough energy if not then they aren’t getting enough nutrients , vitamins or sleep. 2 it states that a person who can consume caffeine can consume up to 400 mg of caffeine a day now that is at your own risk . 3 any one who is opening an energy drink you should already know it’s going to up your heart rate and make you feel a certain way in no way is a company liable for some one falling sick because some one drank one too many of these products. Now if they got sink because the product had chemicals in it or something of that nature ok that would be valid but this is not valid

I’ve been drinking energy drinks since I was in middle school. I drank a couple a week or every few days at most, and I have had a heart problem since I was born. Anyone who drinks them knows or should know there is a chance they can cause serious issues and possibly deäth. While any energy drink is dangerous to consume and has a decent amount of caffeine, the Alani’s have 200mg. That alone should give people a concern as to no drink one or more than one a day for that matter. It is a sad situation, but in the end she chose to drink it knowing what could happen. I think it is pretty stupid for the parents to try and sue a million dollar company over a simple decision knowing it will not even go as far as a trial or such. If anything, I’d let this be a sign to those who drink multiple a day to limit themself and be aware of what can happen.
