When the behaviors start coming out… 😅 Today was a little rough. As students get more comfortable, the behaviors start to show up, and today I had to leave early. Unfortunately, the majority of my class did not make the best choices while I was gone. But honestly, moments like this are WHY we teach routines, procedures, and expectations. In first grade, we’re not just teaching academics. We’re teaching children what it means to be a student, a classmate, and a good person. I tell my students: respect isn’t something we only show our primary teacher. We show respect to ALL adults, in ALL spaces, even when our favorite teacher isn’t there. ❤️ Classroom management is so much more than getting students to sit quietly and follow directions. It’s laying the foundation for accountability, respect, kindness, and making good choices—even when no one is watching. And yes… sometimes they’re little and they have to LEARN these things. It’s our job to teach them. So today I wanted to share a real conversation I had with my first graders. No yelling. No babying them. Just talking to them like the people they are and helping them understand: this is not okay, and here’s why.
