Quitting alcohol quite literally gave me my life back, by the grace of God. And when I look back at old photos of myself, I’m still shocked by how much it changed me physically. I drank for the majority of my life, so for a long time I couldn’t pinpoint why I never really felt like myself when I looked in the mirror. My face looked different. There was so much inflammation around my eyes, forehead and nose, and my face always looked rounder and puffier. Alcohol also kept an extra 10–15 pounds on my frame, which changed my face and body even more. Since quitting, my skin has changed dramatically. It’s hydrated and glowing now. My hair can finally grow long without constantly feeling frail and brittle. My eyes used to look cloudy. Even my teeth somehow look different to me now. And my entire body changed. At the ripe old age of 46, I finally feel like I’ve reached my body goals. But some of the biggest changes are the ones you can’t see in a before and after photo. I rarely get headaches anymore. I sleep deeply. I have energy. I wake up clearheaded. I trust myself. I’m present for my life. My entire life has transformed over the past three years.
