Now, more than 70 women were left trying to figure out how to get back home to the United States. We were told it could take two to three days, which meant we also had to secure and pay for additional accommodations. We banded together, but we could not all remain in one place. Our group was scattered across different hotels and locations throughout Nice. Approximately 20 of us were able to stay together at a Hilton. It was the Fourth of July, and while women were scrambling to find flights, lodging, and money, we saw Kendra post herself celebrating with fireworks and a parade. It felt incredibly insensitive considering what everyone was experiencing. There was nothing to celebrate for the women who were grieving the loss of their money, their trust, their security, and the trip they had planned for two years. I contacted her and asked her to take the post down. Word had already spread quickly throughout the group, and she eventually removed it. I made it home safely, but many women experienced even more hardship. Some banks flagged their emergency purchases as fraud because of the large, unexpected charges. Flights were canceled. Some women became stranded in other countries and had to stay overnight—one of those places was Istanbul. We communicated and supported one another through the company’s app. However, Kendra removed herself from the conversation because she felt people were being cruel and saying hurtful things. I told her plainly: You cannot walk away because the truth is uncomfortable. People trusted you with their money, their time, and—most importantly—their safety. Their anger did not come from nowhere. It came from the decisions that left more than 70 women stranded in a foreign country. Leadership does not disappear when accountability becomes uncomfortable. There was no easy way out of this—and there should not have been. We trusted Younique Ventures. And we were left to find our own way home.
