someone alive now could’ve seen the last thylacine in the zoo when they were a baby, and they might not have even known. Our kids, grandkids or possibly even we could see a tiger or snowleopard for the last time ever in a zoo some day

I love the logic behind it as well. yes, moa and stellar sea cows are considered historically recent animals, but they do exist in the fossil record and technically are holdover pleistocene era megafauna.
