One myth that is supported by these gadgets is that the person doing the harm is a stranger jumping out of the bushes. Often the perpetrators are known to the victims. How will these gadgets help when it’s a person’s husband? Boyfriend? Father? It doesn’t stop coercion from a “friend” who was trusted. Makes me furious.

I do not agree with you. I do understand your point and it makes sense to a certain point. The essence of having that kind of ‘’protection’’ in not in the damage it can make. It is more powerful. Ra….ts are predators that are looking for an easy pray, for a woman that is afraid, ashamed, low confidence, low self esteem. When women have any kind of ‘’protection’’ they automatically feel more powerful. It is proven that people goes with guns or knives ( which is allowed in many countries) even walk differently. They posture is more straight, they walk sure, they do not look around all the time. The chance to be robbed, assaulted or otherwise is much lower when you are confident.
