I have experienced this and agree with you! I'm now adopting tooling to help me keep my brain wrapped around the code base. Karpathey's Wiki LLM with Obsidian and Graphify is my next experiment. The wiki data can keep the human and the agent on the same page during planning. Understand the system and planning is now the critical part, not coding. Defining specs and guardrails constrains the agent to the human's will. If the agent deviates git reset --hard HEAD 😂

Perhaps can be overcome with a guidelines/design patterns markdown file. Slightly related, I also have a script setup that prints the repository tree (only non hidden folders) to AGENTS.md - so the AI doesnt lose ITS mental map. And should thus better respect the existing patterns. I also think we humans will need to put a lot more effort into managing the automated tests

A quick, healthy, high-protein Mediterranean-inspired chicken and chickpea wrap, perfect for meal prep.
