I'm the warehouse manager for a large hardware store in Ireland, I refuse to throw out savable plants, my entire house is now filled to the brim with massive gorgeous plants as well as all my sisters yards looking like botanical gardens. I just won't throw out plants because my company doesn't have a good grasp of supply and demand.

Today at Lowe’s I checked 2 silver dragon alocasias, found 2 small corms (only check the first centimeter to inch! We aren’t here to stress them out) and a philodendron node, it was marked variegated foliage so.. idk what it is but the rest of it was rotting so I took my chance and snatched it<3

I usually go to their clearance section and score me a little plant for $0.50 (in mexico🤭) if I'm lucky it'll survive and I'll happy plant, if it doesn't survive, it was less than a dollar so it's ok

That sap on the philodendron pictured is normal and not a sign of pests. Generally a sign of a happy philodendron

All my local nurseries I have around me literally only have like Less than 10 plants for sale and they’re all very tiny. More decor, supplies, books etc than actually living plants 😭

Every outdoor plant I ever bought at Home Depot had spider mites and that’s how I learned about them. And everything is full price no matter how bad they look. Never again!

I will never buy from big box again. I’m new and bought a bunch of plants at once and I’m dealing with fungus gnats like crazy. And ai swear I saw spider mites tonight, I sprayed neem and I’m going to investigate further tomorrow. 😭 I want to build a collection and it’s just not worth it.

There is no local nurseries with good plants near me 😭 I do a lot online but the HD plants are the only ones that survive
