I'm from Texas and it's just what we do. I truly believe it's because it's easier to get out. But I also drive a large SUV. My friend from up north makes fun of us because it's just a thing here in Texas.

Such a pet peeve of mine! The only time that ever makes sense is at concerts or other events when everybody is leaving at the same time. It’s exceptionally good then. Otherwise it’s ridiculous. Now, I will step off my soapbox.

The reason I do it is because I can tell using my side mirrors exactly how close my back sides are to next car vs I can’t tell in front because I have zero depth perception. I’ll do it from front if the 2 other cars are very far apart.

I used to have to park in a city parking garage for work & when you get off many people come flying so yes to back out you can't see well who is coming at you is why

I do it hon, it’s just easier to get out.. I drive a Denali, and I have a backup camera, but invariably someone will dart behind me..So better I think to back in..

Well, if your car won't start when you come out to get in it and you've got cars parked on that side of you you're gonna be screwed. If you back in someone can always give you a jumpstart very easily.. other than that I don't see any advantage. However, now that I'm thinking about it people in parking lots it's way safer to pull out going forward versus backing out
