You know what they say about “you can always tell if you would love or hate a job” on your first day at work. I think it’s not really about the job, but about the people on the job with you. I know this because I have lived it. Ayomi being my first ever movie as an actor, Executive producer, writer and score composer. One of the things I am always grateful for on the project is Lala for casting G.A for that role. We shot this film when I was in my second year in the university (OAU) I was just a teenager who just lost her dad, who had nothing but God, some money, talents and big dream but knows nothing to do with all of it. But my last day on set of Ayomi, I wasn’t that same young lady anymore, I had this assurance, clarity, faith. I am convinced beyond words that I was called for this, not just because I had a dream to shoot a film to be marketed the regular way, but it ended up in the cinema, or because it gave me my first AMVCA nomination, but because of the major experience I had with Gabriel Afolayan while working on the project itself. He didn’t just come to play his part as Ayomi, He carried me. It was my major first time on screen, but no one could tell cos he carried me with himself, I felt so relaxed in that character that at some point it feels like I have met him a long time ago. You know when you are in a scene and you are meant to laugh, and while you are busy worrying about how to fake a laugh, your fellow actor just says something off the script to get the real expression out of you. Of all the actors I have worked with in my career, I have learnt the most, from Gabriel Afolayan. He wouldn’t only just help me find who I’m meant to be on set, I’d always send my newly recorded songs to him, I’d listen and tell me what needs fixing. I have never had to call him and he is no where to be found. He was and still is just that big brother I never had. And the most dignifying part, a professional to the core. This is just me saying “Thank you” not just for showing up for “YOU WILL NEVER BE MINE”, but for being who you are. You were that “first person you meet at work” for me. And it birthed a conviction that shaped an entire career. Meet JJ, in #YouWillNeverBeMine🥀 Coming to @kava_tv on the 8th of October First teaser out 12pm tomorrow #bukunmioluwashina #Lovestory
