@positivepressure: THIS PAST YEAR…I’ve shown you how to create your own media server, but today, we’re making it more efficient 🎥 💻 #pctips #netflix #pcsetups #carterpcs
people with large libraries should also check out Tdarr

a tip from an animator: don't mess with the frame rate for 2D animated stuff. Interpolations look like dookey on drawings. Save it as 24fps (original fps) for the crispest results!

you should look into and make a video on tdarr. Tdarr automates this transcoding process on your media based on your own rules (e.g. transcode if file is greater than 1080p). your library is then automatically optimized without you having to manually sift and transcode all your media.

I used tdarr, and while it took a long time to learn, I now have it set to COMPLETELY handle my media compression for me. I haven’t had to do anything but add a show or movie to my pc and tdarr handles the rest (removing unwanted languages, reordering tracks, transcoding…)

This is not practical. You should already set sonarr and radarr to download based on trash guides and download h265.
They (Trash guides) also dont recommend running your own encoding because its just a waste of resource, as especially for animes there are plenty already converted torrents.

I created an app to do this. It’s built for m series macs. I got sick of scripts failing and taking too long so I had Claude suggest an alternative and it said we should just build an app tailored for me. I went a bit too far and vibe coded the crap out of it. It’s beautiful and works amazingly but it’s just for me.

I notice when I use handbrake even with setting changed a bit, that dark sections (space, or dark scenes) they were like patchy. What was I doing wrong?

Ditching Spotify for a local library! I have 30GB of FLAC/WAV files on a 2TB HDD. I want to keep the lossless files there but sync compressed versions to my phone/tablet. Is 320kbps MP3 the move, or is there a smarter way to manage this workflow?

what about processing? where do you encode videos? usually NAS have not very powerful CPUs and because of this, it can take a long time to encode for example 40 minutes video in h264 or h265
