For me, at least 10 years so long as it doesnโt get totaled. I bought a Honda Accord new in 2014, drove it for about 10 years, and traded it in for a new RAV 4 in 2024. I plan to have the RAV for at least another 8 years, possibly longer.

still drive my 2012 bmw x5 diesel , had expensive repairs but is still cheaper than any modern car payment. plus the old cars have cheaper insurance and registration.

My car is 13 years 200k. Not buying new one. When I need a car for longer trips, I just rent it. Cheaper than monthly payments.

I just replaced my 2006 Honda CR-V with a 2025 Honda Passport. My CR-V cost about $1,250 per year not considering insurance, maintenance, etc.

my 08 yaris is 180k miles and needed new wheel bearings, this maintenance fix cost more than its value but i did it bc it runs like a top lol

Designed in obsolescence doesn't help. Sealed transmissions and being told it has a lifetime fluid is lie still being told. Now there are plastic oil pans and plastic water pumps. New cars are becoming disposable.

I always keep my car as long as it runs. Anywhere from 10 to 18 years. Currently have a spare car that's 18 yr old with 180,000 miles that still look good & run good.

My car was 16 years old and I drove it 14 of those years. I just traded it in with 187,000 miles on it. I traded it in only because in the last several years I found myself putting thousands of dollars in it to keep it going. I know that itโs more expensive to have a car payment, but I also know that itโs not wise to keep putting money into an old car. Thereโs gonna come a day when the engine will go out and thatโs $5000. Last month a light that Iโve never seen turned on and I knew that it was time to get rid of it. Iโm very happy that I have a new vehicle, Iโm not happy that I have a car payment but I need something reliable.
