I couldn’t do that. I made a decision not to sacrifice my life to take care of her—but I will make sure she’s provided for. I’m doing it for myself, not for her. Conditional love isn’t love, and the fact that she doesn’t have love for anyone isn’t my burden to carry. No matter what, I will choose to act in line with my own values. She won’t receive premium care driven by love, but she will be taken care of and have the basic conditions for a decent life. I got to this point by deciding that her actions will no longer have any power over me or change who I am.

I’m NC with my mum and I’m the same. She paid into a basic plan but will expect premium service. Or, she didn’t put love & respect into our relationship but expected me to be always there because we’re related. When it ended it was such a relief not having to lie to myself that she cared when her actions clearly showed she didn’t.

My mom did get sick and I only was around when she was hospitalized and when others were around/she was comatose. She was awful. I was comfortable with my choice.
