@louisethompson: I'm starting to get suspicious of car and motorbike fraud/insurance/ car pounds and the police's involvement or lack of involvement. Ryan recently had his motorbike stolen when we were away. This motorbike means so much to him. It's one of the only posessions he owns outright. We called when we were away and checked every single online number plate tracker and compound and it was no where to be seen. The met police had no notification about the bike or its number plate. So we have to go through the whole tricky insurance process. Then when we get home we come back to letters that have been sent by the met police that have already been sent before we called them. SO my question is how did they not have ANYTHING on the system when we spent a whole day getting in touch with everyone on the internet that could possibly know where this bike is. The next step is that it's been compounded (after it’s been stolen and found) and there is a fee to get it out, even though Ryan has done nothing wrong he has to pay. This exact story happened when my car disappear in London. No one could find it, I spent several weeks trying to search for it. Got so far with the insurance claim and then one month later the insurance said they couldn't pay out because the car had been found in a pound. I'd already called all the pounds and it wasn't in there, I asked the police to check every system and all pounds and they couldn't locate it, but suddenly it's been sat in the pound for a month and I was facing a 3k feee which was worth more than my car so I lost my car. Please tell me how and why innocent people are getting caught out by this every day in the UK? #carrant #rant #cartheft #motorbike #insurance
3 grand to get it back, is that even legally justifiable.. can you ask for a breakdown of the charges?

So your vehicle is stolen and dumped, impounded by the police and you have to pay for it to be released at a huge rate! Completely wrong!

Put in a subject access request to the police and to the pound. If you can show that the police knew where the motorbike was, at the point they were telling you they didn’t, put in a formal complaint and a claim for the money.

Some Police officers are complicit with the car pounds who store/collect the cars. My SIL was stopped by police & told her car was cloned, they surrounded her, I was parked in front ( we were at school pick-up ) I confronted the police to say that I had bought the car from the show room and it was paid off...they called the car pound guys etc ... fortunately we had proof, I asked for their numbers etc as I wanted to complain and suddenly they all drove off, when I tried to report the incident the central police station had no record!! The car pound companies have contract with the police...so it works out for both.

We had a car stolen of the drive. A four car police chase later. They caught the thief coming out of the car. The thief was not charged lack of evidence. Absolute joke

100000% a flawed system. Even if parked on yellows or disabled etc, I appreciate there should be a consequence but the fact someone can take your car to any location without any notification to the owner baffles me!

Follow the money, I had a car accident someone ran a red light and they hit me, luckily I had dash cam footage but the other insurance company still contested it, I had another car hire company to get a similar size car, and it was for longer than I needed as my car was still drivable even though someone had said it wasn’t, all of this is extra cost, if humans were just accountable and if insurance companies weren’t using hire companies to extend extra costs are premiums probably wouldn’t be going up, it’s all about profit, who is profiting off your inconvenience. Once you see it, you see it everywhere ❤️

A saw a tiktok recently of a guy that reported his work van stolen. Police had no record of it being found or anything. He starts walking around all his neighbourhood and finds its a few weeks later parked with multiple parking tickets. So the police had no record of where it was although it had multiple fines … WILD!

It was probably stolen and found before you reported it to the police . The police won’t waste time calling salvage companies for you, they log on their database as stolen.

I agree, it is totally ridiculous that the Police seem unable to locate cars that have been impounded. I would not be surprised at all if other people have experienced this and been totally ripped off. It seems to me that the Police are operating in a criminal manner in doing this. What an absolute pain in the arse for you, hope that things get less stressful soon x🌸

Omg this exact thing happened to my mums car in London. It was taken from outside my house and then vanished. No one knew where it was, went through everything and then it turned up in a compound. The car was quite old so we didn’t end up getting it back and my mum had gone through everything and thought what’s the point etc. I don’t know how much it was to get it back.

yup. I swear its all a big money making thing. had my car stolen and was found and taken to a pound. was told I had to pay or it would be taken to auction. I had to leave it because it cost too much. also, in my car were some bags of shopping an a box containing everything from my wedding. it had wedding cards with money in it. weirdly the people at the pound gave me my bags but said there wasnt a box. I still dont believe them.
