When I was 14 I had a restaurant booked for my birthday with all my friends. They all cancelled one by one so my parents took me out instead. We got there and all my friends were there at another table without me. I’ve been very careful with who I’ve chosen to be friends with ever since.

Happy Birthday angel I did the same thing this year and went on holidays with my mum ended up being my best birthday cause I prepared myself to be let down and stopped expecting me from people 🤍 xx

My best friend/roommate was throwing me a birthday party and every single person, one by one, messaged her and said that they can’t make it about a half hour before it was supposed to start. I came home, cried when she told me, blew out the candles and we went out and had the most fun. The quality friends are what really count 🫶

I invited all my friends to the races for ladies day for my 18th thinking it’s an occasion to get all dressed up for. Organised transport, dinner everything. The only friend I couldn’t invite was my best friend of 5 years as they had an over 18’s policy and she was 17. They all cancelled, the last one being the night before. I was devastated. My parents rang my best friend when I had gone to bed and she showed up the next morning all dressed up for the races and the racecourse had agreed to let her join if my parents were there. Almost 10 years later that girl is still my ride or die ❤️

As a December baby I’ve always had people cancel on my birthday. It’s terrible and it’s made me hate birthdays. I no longer organise anything for my birthday so I’m not disappointed. I’ve found this far better as anything that does happen is wonderful and I don’t have expectations that don’t get met and then I don’t get disappointed. This dosent excuse friends letting us down and not showing up for us but it does help me not feel so terrible.

For my 21st, I went on a trip by myself. Had dinner alone at a fancy waterfront restaurant. I’ve been to so many 21st’s, where so many friends and family show up. There’s always speeches. So I saved myself the dissapointment of the people I love not showing up, or nobody doing a speech for me, and just spent it by myself. I sort of regret it, because the day didn’t go as well as I’d planned or hoped, but I was alone because I chose to be. Not because other people let me down 🤍

No one talks about how hard friendship is as you get older. It’s soooo hard to understand how people do things to you that you’d never do to them. I’ve just lost 2 ‘best friends’ for similar reasons, you’re better off without them girl!

No one is genuine anymore I’ve spent my life holding onto one sided friendships, always reaching out making plans, none of it was ever reciprocated. Constantly stabbed in the back and betrayed by the ones I was closest too. I’m 27 and I’ve cut every single one of them off, my life is peaceful now I’m not constantly being drained and disappointed.. I hope you can see your worth and do the same
