the worst is being under staffed, under paid and over worked at the same time.

Used to own my own janitorial business. I gave my employees 95% of what I made minus costs. I was providing people with 28$+ jobs in 2008. You would be shocked the quality people give you when you pay them well.

The fact that he leads with "I've tried hiring and firing" tells me all I needed to know

I'm not going to run your whole business for $20/h. I walked out of my last job because I had to run the whole kitchen by myself multiple nights a week, selling 3k worth of food and taking home $100 a day

the problem is companies don't want to pay people what their work is worth?

I kept my employees at full-time and fixed schedules so they can plan their days off. Tips were paid in $100 bills. They got to eat for free. Parents were scheduled so they can pickup their kids from school and attend school events. Little things make a difference.

It baffles me how businesses owners don’t understand this, like either you’re paying someone enough to do a job or enough to do a good job.

Worked for place zero pto until 2 years working there. The boss wondered why he had high turnover.

Exactly! It’s wild that companies will have so much turnover and they continue to ask themselves why? But they don’t look at their internal processes or toxic management… there’s your why. 🙄

People get paid $16 an hour, they will give you $16 worth of work. If you pay them $30, they will give you $30. If you give them stake in the business, a percent of the profits...

When I was an hourly manager and the owner of the restaurant told me my job should come before my family is when I quit. He took off work for any family events or holidays but expected me in there all the time

As a former manager-90% of the problem is management not knowing the difference between being a boss and being a leader. Everywhere I’ve ever been I have build an amazing, loyal crew. TWICE-the whole crew walked out within 2 months of me leaving.

I work for a business that im not gonna name, but you definitely know, the multimillion business that makes the bridges at airports that connection the airport to the plane? Yeah when i started little over 2 years ago, they gave us breakfast if we came in on Saturdays, a $100 bonus every week for attendance, another $100 bonus every week if the plant hit 79% productivity. And the managers were allowed not to care if you showed up 10-20 minutes late maybe once a month, because they understood, were all human. As long as the job gets done, correctly and on time, they didnt care. BUT about a year ago we got bought by a multibillion dollar corporation, that changed our name, just look it up. No more bonuses, at all for any reason. No breakfast on saturday, and absolutely ZERO leeway for attendance. It went from being owned by a multimillion business, and being an enjoyable place to work, where you felt valued and understood to being owned by a multiBILLION corporation, where it feels more like a prison than an actual workplace, they're pushing us harder than ever, they upped our quota by 40% and got rid of literally everything that made it worth it to work there.
