@ericb20m: Beah Richards — born Beulah Richardson, known to most audiences from Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner — wrote “A Black Woman Speaks of White Womanhood, of White Supremacy, of Peace” in 1950. She first performed it in 1951 at the American People’s Peace Congress, a radical multiracial peace organization the U.S. State Department had labeled a Communist front. The poem invoked Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Ida B. Wells — not as historical footnotes, but as living arguments. Before 500 women, Richards wove race, gender, and class into a single indictment.
