@flightsimstuff: JetBlue Flight 775 had a moment just after takeoff from JFK that’s now raising serious questions. The tower had just told the crew, “helicopter seven hundred feet just off the right… no factor, they have you in sight,” but seconds later, as the jet rotated and lifted off, the pilots got a TCAS alert showing traffic at the same altitude. What they saw on their screens didn’t match what they were told. “We just departed a couple minutes ago, had a TCAS RA with a helicopter… we would like a phone number and the tapes marked, please,” the pilot said, adding, “as we rotated and the nose was coming up, we had a zero on the TCAS, same altitude… passed over him at six hundred feet. We never had them in sight.” The jet climbed out safely, but that close call and the request to preserve the tapes suggest this isn’t being brushed off and could be looked at very closely.
