I remember thinking this stuff was sooo confusing 😅 iron levels, numbers, tests… but even when things looked “fine” I still felt exhausted, bloated and just off in my body. it made no sense and I felt stuck. nothing I tried really helped long term. then in a womens group someone mentioned Eat Like a Woman Protocol (by Loren Green). High ferritin does not equate to high iron! Is misleading since it also can be elevated with inflammatory conditions. Low ferritin does equate to low iron.

Its only relevant in iron deficiency anemia, in anemia of Chronic Diseases, Ferritin will be super high

There’s some additional nuance in inflammation. Ferritin is an acute phase reactant so increases in inflammation even if iron stores are low.

The number of docs who don’t understand this has really brought into question my own understanding. Glad to hear I know my stuff. lol. For those commenting on ferritin as an acute phase we were always taught if above 200 you don’t have low iron regardless of inflammation.
