@alanonai: Engineering for Vibe Coders: Databse Indexing If your app is getting slower over time and you did not change anything, this is probably why. Most vibe-coded apps skip database indexes. At first, it feels fine. You have a small dataset, queries are fast, everything works. But under the hood, your database is scanning every row to find what you asked for. That is fine at 100 rows. It is a problem at 100,000. Suddenly your API slows down, your functions time out, and your costs start going up. Indexes fix this by giving your database a fast lookup path instead of searching everything. But here is the catch. Indexes only help if they match how you query your data. If you are filtering by user_id, you need an index on user_id. If you are sorting by created_at, that needs to be indexed too. If you are vibe coding and not thinking about indexes, your app is not fast. It is just small. This is the kind of content vibe coders need way more of. Indexing is the silent killer — the app feels fast on day 1 with 50 rows, then by month 2 a single dashboard query is doing a 200k row sequential scan. Add an "EXPLAIN ANALYZE on slow queries" habit early and you save yourself a midnight production fire.

Yes indexing and views. Do you know anything about cached egress? I already webp and compress but it’s not good

Just fyi AI is getting pretty good. if you prompt it correctly, it will design your database correctly. people just don't have the technical know-how to write prompts

Index only what’s necessary, the amount of storage you can save by choosing a what to index is a huge amount. My DB has billions of records so I guess this may not apply to everybody. Joint tables can be equally fast for reverse lookups and direct matches may not really need indexing

Question- for Ai rag we need indexing for both rational database but also very importantly docs — what’s the best way to indexing file based docs like splunk indexing
