Over-releasing fascia can temporarily increase lymphatic fluid + inflammation because you just mobilized a lot of stuck tissue at once. That’s why your face can look puffy, uneven, or feel tender after deep work. It’s not usually a bad sign — it means things are moving, but now your body needs help draining. What helps reduce swelling: • Lay on a heating pad (neck/upper chest) → heat relaxes fascia + improves lymph flow • Gentle gua sha (VERY light pressure) → don’t dig, just guide fluid downward • Add buccal massage → helps move inflammation from cheeks/jaw internally • Always finish by draining to lymph nodes (down neck → collarbones) • Drink electrolytes + water to support fascia rehydration • Avoid aggressive pressure for 24 hours — think drain, not release Fun fact: overworking jaw/face fascia can also cause • under eye puffiness • sinus pressure • TMJ flare • neck tightness • uneven smile because all of this tissue connects through the superficial fascial + lymphatic network If you look swollen after fascia release — don’t panic.
