The problem is I’m too aware when someone is trying to do this to me and because I’m so aware of the manipulation tactic, I don’t bother doing it to others either because I feel like it’s just so obvious… it makes me cringe

If someone spoke to me in this manner I would not like it and see the manipulation. It’s very obviously patronising. I give people more credit than that. I just wish for people to be honest in how they feel and do it in a respectful, considerate manner. This only feeds manipulative behaviour and is not necessary

yeah, I don't know if this would work on me… I resent people that never reveal anything about themselves or are too mysterious for no reason. I think under-communication leads to misunderstanding and people will often form negative misunderstandings if you are too quiet.
