Change makes people feel unsafe, and as a leader, it’s your job to help people feel safe throughout the process - here are three stages to leading change that needs to be part of your plan. 1: The Before Stage This is everything from deciding that a change is needed to the day before the change is implemented. During this time, consistently engage stakeholders for their opinions and integrate that learning into the solution… and keep people informed along the way. So many people keep the change close to their chest so people don’t start freaking out, but that never works because people always find out. So communicate clearly and often. 2: The During Stage Everyone is usually so exhausted getting ready to launch the change that they forget that the implementation time period is critical. Make sure you listen and seek feedback during this time too. Lots of organizations are reticent to make changes at this stage, but if you instigate and push things without listening, your change will fail fast. 3: The After Stage Once something launches, people are onto the next thing and assume everything’s good. Make sure you plan a succession of checkpoints after the launch to keep listening and improving the change with your audience. Bottom line: The more people know you’re listening and want to make this work, the safer they’ll feel to make it work too. #l#leadershiptokc#corporatetokl#leadershipb#bealeaderl#leadershipskillse#executivecoachc#corporatelifes#successincorporatew#worklifechangemanagement
