@tbretc: Here you go folks! Review of YESTERYEAR. Thank you @aaknopf and @prhaudio for my ARCs. I have so much more to say, but had to keep it under 3 min for IG. I don't know if you do this sort of thing. But I need someone to spoil the twist to me to see if it's worth to buy it. I've been reading reviews, some positive some negative. And buying a copy of this book would be sort of expensive in my country, like more than a whole day's work pay. And while I'm willing to spend that money on books, I need to know if it's good or not. Please 🥺

I just started this yesterday as an audiobook and they picked the PERFECT narrator in Rebecca Lowman for this. I’m entirely hooked.

I loved it—couldn’t put it down! I’ve been thinking a lot about it… her style reminds me a bit of Joyce Carol Oates, especially in regard to that twist ending; that dark literary feel. Which I think we need a resurgence of. 💛

Excellent review- I feel the EXACT same as you about the entire thing. Loved laughing out loud at Natalie at various parts of the book. May just be my all time favorite book.

I liked it/it was ok but there was just something missing for me. I wasn’t satisfied. But I’m glad I read it

I really enjoyed this book and I liked that her character was unlikable and snarky

I am about halfway through and I am very much enjoying Yesteryear. I went into it thinking it would be satire and I think that has helped me and I have laughed several times already. And I honestly do not dislike Natalie entirely.

Great review! I also received an ARC and couldn’t wait for it to come out to see / hear people’s thoughts. It truly is a unique book, like nothing I’ve read before. I did not like our FMC but I think that’s ok. Overall I enjoyed it too.

I also didn’t think she was unlikable. I thought she was unhinged and those are my favorite characters!

I LOVE unlikable main characters so will be reading this! There are unlikable people in real life so why shouldn’t they exist in fiction too?

she was totally unlikable, and the whole target interaction was true to her character of who she was.

Reading it now and I’m very disappointed as I was so looking forward to it. I have heard it described as satire but it’s not. I think Natalie is vile and some of the things she thought about her children and husband were just awful. I really think this book was marketed as more of a humorous book ( I haven’t laughed once) and I really think it could have been so much better if it was straight up funny. I’m also seeing it marketed as Literary Fiction and I don’t feel it belongs in that category - it’s more pop fiction/light thriller.
