@surgicalrnguides: Being prepared for every case is extremely important as a nurse in the operating room. During room preparation for a ventriculoperitoneal catheter procedure, you should have these 3 things available in your room… ☝️the ventricular catheter is the proximal catheter that will be placed in the ventricle of the brain ✌️the valve, which typically sits behind the patients ear, is responsible for draining CSF 3️⃣ the peritoneal catheter is the distal catheter that ends in the peritoneal cavity where the CSF is reabsorbed by the body #surgery #healthcare #nurse
Hi! I am suuuuuper curious and have been since this brilliant pediatric neurosurgeon said it. What would it look like in the OR when doing a replacement and the ventricle catheter “shot out and hit the wall of the OR” as she said.

Where should the distal catheter sit? My son is 3wks post of and he’s having lower abdominal pain. He pediatric ordered a KuB xray which showed the catheter coiled in the pelvis. Well he’s complaining and grabbing that area. His NS said “THE TUBE WILL NOT CAUSE PAIN.”
