1)8d8 is crit smite with 3d level. Wizard can deal 8d6 to all in the room 4 levels before 🙄 (also putting ba in smites is just bad idea in 2024 rules) 2)+5 in charisma meaning he investing only in it. Soooo he has 15-16 in str on kevel 12. Thats sad.

To get an 8d8 smite you need to expend a 3rd level spell slot, on a crit. This requires a 9th level paladin. Meanwhile 9th level wizards are doing 8d8 to everyone in a 60 ft cone with cone of cold.

Paladin is the ultimate main character class. It’s easy to build stories for them, they have high charisma and are generally tank, have high burst damage AND can solve most social encounters relatively efficiently. They can cast spells, summon mounts out of their back pocket. It’s friggin hilarious
