Employers need to know employee rights and respect them. Who cares if he was part of the reason for the company getting shut down thats their fault not his.

1. The Civil Settlement
In August 2023, Beaver County agreed to pay $52,000 plus legal fees to settle a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by Vollmar and the organization Direct Action Everywhere (DxE).
The Claim: The lawsuit alleged that the officers violated the activists' First Amendment rights by ordering them to stop recording, threatening them with arrest for peacefully handing out flyers on a public sidewalk, and retaliating against them based on their viewpoint (their opposition to Smithfield Foods).
The Defense: While the county settled, their attorneys maintained that the officers did nothing wrong, stating the settlement was a move to "quickly resolve the litigation" rather than an admission of guilt.
2. The Criminal Case
Despite the civil settlement, Vollmar faced local criminal charges stemming from the same encounter.
The Verdict: In April 2023, a Utah judge found Vollmar guilty of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
The Penalty: He was ordered to pay a fine of approximately $850.
The Appeal: Vollmar and his legal team characterized the verdict as an "egregious abuse" and a "censorship of speech," and they subsequently filed an appeal to challenge the conviction.
