I’ve learned that loving someone with an avoidant attachment style isn’t about “fixing” them or forcing them to be vulnerable; it’s about understanding the silent language of their boundaries. In the beginning, I used to take her withdrawal personally, feeling like my need for communication was a burden, but I realized that her retreat wasn't a rejection of me—it was her way of managing an internal overwhelm he didn’t yet have words for. Handling it well meant mastering the art of the “soft check-in” giving her the physical and emotional space she needed to feel safe without making her feel abandoned. I’ve found that when I honor her autonomy and stay steady in my own self-regulation, she actually feels safer coming back to me on her own terms. We’ve built a bridge between my desire for closeness and her need for independence by recognizing that we are two whole individuals sharing a life, rather than two halves trying to lose ourselves in each other, and that shift in perspective changed everything.

Patience is a quiet strength, brother. If you are emotionally intelligent enough, you will learn to remain calm and grounded—even when loving someone who cannot fully return what you offer. Those who are avoidant often build their walls impossibly high, not out of pride, but out of fear. And while not every wall is meant to be climbed, a truly wise man knows when to try—and when to simply stand with grace.
Be patient, but do not lose yourself in the process. Fight for the one you love, yes—but never at the cost of your own worth. After all, the heart was given to us not only to love deeply, but also to know when to let go with dignity.

As an avoidant girl, seeing the comments saying that you still love the girl even after she was avoidant — thank you. Because for me, I’d rather keep my distance since I feel like I’m selfish and don’t deserve someone’s love. I’m trying, but I can’t, so I choose to distance myself from the people I like. Sometimes, even when people I like confess their feelings, I’d rather apologize and end things than let them struggle because of me. I’m really sorry.

I have a girlfriend who has an avoidant attachment, it is true that it is sometimes hard for me, but I know that it is harder for her too. Knowing that you are hurting someone that you love by running away, but you can’t do anything about it yet because it is what you are used to—running away from the problems and overwhelming things about your relationship. Still, I choose to understand her, not because it is the only thing that I can do—but because it is the right thing to do. She might not see it but she is definitely improving herself for us, herself, and me. I’m always proud of her, I love her. I will never leave her even if she keeps pushing me away, I will never stop loving her even if it is hard. Loving her sometimes is hard, but if it’s not her then I don’t want them. I love her, I definitely do.

to those pips who are avoidant as me, I'm encouraging us all to heal first, to fix ourselves, before getting into situationships or relationships. Please DON'T HURT PEOPLE who show genuine love and care, who really make an effort to understand you.

Labeling avoidant women as a ‘curse’ misses the whole point of what emotional intelligence actually is. Avoidant attachment is not a personality flaw—it’s a response shaped by experiences. Hindi siya excuse, but it’s an explanation. And if you’re dealing with someone who is avoidant, the goal isn’t to fix them or label them—it’s to understand how they learned to cope. Because at the end of the day, people don’t heal by being labeled; they heal when they feel safe enough to stay. And emotional intelligence shows in how you create that space, not how quickly you define someone.

it's not a curse gang, if you really love that person you will stay no matter what happens even though that person has an avoidant attachment because of her past, this is what im dealing rn because love is not all about having an instant reciprocation because it will lose it's romance. Remember real love is about taking a risk and pursuing that person till the end no matter what happens.

some avoidant people should never be told that they dont deserve love, they just need to be loved properly and find a person who they can feel the safest with. in some cases, a person would never give up on you if they truly love you. they’ll try to fix and understand you better. saying this as someone who had an avoidant gf but i managed to fix her after being patient for years.

When you say 'curse' it sounds like something bad about the person. but being avoidant isn’t like that it’s a coping mechanism, avoidant people like me usually learned from past experiences that showing emotions didn’t feel safe or wasn’t understood. that’s why we hold things in or pull away sometimes but it doesn’t mean we don’t care. We’re not cold, we just protect ourselves in a different way we feel a lot, we just don’t always know how to show it. It’s not that the person doesn’t care—they actually do but expressing it can feel uncomfortable or even risky. So instead of opening up easily, we choose to regulate our emotions by creating space or staying quiet🙃
