I’m going to play devils advocate and just say that almost everyone right now is drowning. Life is hard and incredibly expensive, showing up is not as easy as it used to be. Showing up includes spending hundreds on a trip, gifts, a party. Showing up is not just coming over and having tea like it was when our parents were young. Showing up is a lot of work in 9 times out of 10, you aren’t going to receive it back. So, while I do agree that our generation has lost the art of showing up, we have lost SO much more than that.

I agree with this, but I also feel like we are all going through so much more. I had to tell my friends I couldn’t show up at times just because I mentally couldn’t handle that. But I did communicate that and I attempt to show up any other time.
